A Message from our Patron, the President of Ireland. The study and promotion of the Irish cultural patrimony is an important common agenda which brings together people in Ireland and people of Irish heritage all over the globe. As one of the premier organisations in the United States dedicated to advancing awareness of Irish culture and heritage on both sides of the Atlantic, the Institute has helped build many important links across the ocean. In particular, I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Institute for its continuing successful programmes and its many accomplishments, including the Irish Research Fund awards, the Irish Way student summer programme, and the publication of Éire-Ireland, just to mention a few. All traditions in Ireland are justifiably proud of the achievements of their kinsfolk in the United States. The Irish-American community has in turn contributed much to Ireland. As Ireland faces a potentially defining moment in history, the people of Ireland will continue to draw on this support and learn from the experiences of the global Irish community as we seek to build a new and better future for the people on our island. I am honoured to continue the tradition established by my predecessors of becoming the Patron of the Irish American Cultural Institute. I pay tribute to all those who are working hard in the Institute to establish new and exciting programmes and develop its current ones. I look forward to continuing to support the Institute in its present activities and its future plans. Mary McAleese President of Ireland |
