In Washington, there are museums and monuments to the contributions of Jewish-Americans, African-Americans, Native Americans, German-Americans, Japanese Americans, and others, as well there should be.

Yet Irish-Americans, who were present at every stage in America’s history, and made profound contributions to the development of this country, are not recognized anywhere in our nation’s capital.  We believe there should also be an institution recognize and explore the contributions of the Irish to the United States.
The vision for such a Museum is for an interactive exploration of a wide range of cultural and historical aspects of the Irish-American experience. Some aspects of the Museum experience may include:
  • Hall of American Presidents of Irish descent
  • Timeline of the Irish in America, including the founding of the Republic, impact of the Famine Irish, and contributions to U.S. infrastructure, art, military, education, labor, sports, politics, business, medicine, and more.
  • Performing Arts Center
  • Art Gallery and Exhibition Space Library
  • Center for Genealogical Research
  • Conflict Resolution Studies
The IACI is currently exploring the feasibility and take appropriate steps to progress toward making the Museum of Irish America a reality.  While we recognize this is a sizeable project, we believe it is important that the Irish American Cultural Institute begin the process.  Yet such an institution will not be established without the collaboration of the entire Irish American community.

Thank you to those that have supported the IACI's progress on a feasibility study and campaign for federal support and recognition.
